How I got here

Originally, I worked in the shipbuilding and heavy industries for almost 10 years. First as a project engineer, then as a project manager. But computers have always been a part of my life and in the recent years I got seriously curious about IT and data. For quite long I tried to do the switch through self-studying (I think the first time was back in 2016!), but it never truly worked out.

Then I applied and got selected to a data bootcamp. I was hooked instantly. The world of data, IT, coding, computers and AI was just mezmerizing. Shortly after graduating from the bootcamp, I got my first assignment as a data engineer. In the beginning, I naturally spent time on learning the ropes of this profession: working with tools like Snowflake, Azure, Matillion ETL and Power BI and building the standard data pipelines and visualization dashboards from end to finish.

After a few lucky coincidences, I found a tool called dbt and almost simultaneously got a chance to work out with the founders of Breakout Labs. After freelancing for them for a while, I got invited to join their company as an analytics engineer and employee no. 1.

And, well, here I am, learning more about data every day and having fun building our awesome startup!

What I enjoy

My family. I have a 4-year-old son and the most beautiful spouse who has stayed with me 7 years already! I try to spend quality time with them as often as possible.

Exercising. I go crossfitting 2-3x a week. On top of that, I occasionally run. I don’t really have ambitious goals regarding my fitness, but long term I do want to hit these GPP goals. And just stay healthy.

Minimalism. I like to keep things simple. I want to own as few things as possible, though still living a quality life. In almost everything, I prefer clean and minimal over flashy and complicated.

Books. For the longest time, I only read biographies and informational books. Some of my all-time favorites include Four Thousand Weeks, Meditations for Mortals, It Doesn’t Have to Be Crazy at Work, Pathless Path, Ikigai and Atomic Habits.

But lately, I’ve gotten back to fiction and especially scifi. I recently started reading the Dune-saga and it’ll keep me busy for a long time I suspect.
